During the years 2013/2014 in Grado the "Casa della musica" was renovated. In addition to having returned to citizenship a civic center of cultural aggregation, the restoration work has brought to light numerous archaeological finds that testify the different uses to which the population of Grado has used the building over the centuries. The history of Grado, in fact, has very ancient origins that link the development of the city to that of nearby Aquileia. In Roman times, in fact, Grado became the seaport of Aquileia, subsequently, it was fortified to defend the port of the important Roman colony, barbaric threats: the Castrum Gradense arose that acquired an increasing importance as a bulwark of defense, in the succession of invasions barbarian, until the slow decline, following the emergence of Venice as the dominant power of the Venetian lagoons.
Over the centuries Grado has been enriched with important architectures and among these, the Basilica of Santa Eufemia and that of Santa Maria delle Grazie, bear witness to the great political and religious influence exerted by the island. This important past has reached the present day and is told in the unique testimonies of the archaeological finds discovered during the excavations conducted inside the ancient building and currently preserved in the warehouses of the National Archaeological Museum of Aquileia.
The intervention carried out on the building had a twofold purpose: to show through the archaeological excavation and the consequent recovery of the finds, some of the salient stages of the history of Grado, and at the same time, to restore the building to the community through the architectural restoration. because he could use it.
The past of Grado, in the course of the works, has returned strongly to make itself felt and has claimed its own space in the present making it inevitable to make changes to the already designed restoration interventions, changes that could combine needs for usability and preservation of harmony building. The problem that has in fact been imposed on the attention of the insiders, was precisely that of being able to "transform" the building into a civic center of cultural aggregation and representation without architectural barriers with functional interventions but not invasive and respectful of the natural architecture of the building.
To combine the usability and harmony of the building, a different placement of the disabled elevator was necessary. An unexpected event that has been transformed for CEST SRL into an opportunity to field its technical capabilities and demonstrate the already known flexibility with which the company promptly responds to customer needs. The installation work of the runway has provided for the construction of a load-bearing structure, earthquake-proof, exclusively anchored to the pit base, and the installation of a single-phase electric SHL elevator - which guarantees very low electricity consumption - without external equipment to the racing compartment. The walls of the compartment and the cabin were made of glass to ensure maximum transparency and give brightness to the fascinating context now fully accessible.
The elevator has become part of the three-storey architecture, merging with it without compromising its original harmony and at the same time, helping to make it an emblematic case of urban archeology that has recovered the historical evidence of a glorious past and the full usability of the 'historical building.
